The Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to the family of late Mrs HID Awolowo in Ikenne, Ogun. Mama, wife of the great sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, described as "jewel of inestimable value" by many passed on September 19.
During her short condolence message to the Awolowos, she described Mama as the pillar of support during the days of the Western region administration, saying she was a type of woman who should be emulated by the womenfolk. She described Mama, who passed on at 99, as a great pillar that would be remembered for her contribution to women, national development, peace and unity of Nigeria. She said mama's death was a sad one but HID Awolowo would remain a role model to the women of this great county.
Mrs Buhari was accompanied on the visit by the the wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the former Governor of Rivers State, Judith Amaechi and the former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Mrs Pauline Tallen. Others on the entourage were the wife of the former Governor of Bayelsa, Mrs Alanyingi Sylva; and the wife of Nasarawa State Governor, Mrs. Mero Al-Makura.
On hand to receive her were Mrs. Oludolapo Osinbajo, the vice president's wife and grand child to Mama HID, the deputy governor of the host state, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga and Mrs Omotola Oyediran, Mama's eldest daughter who responded to Mrs. Aisha's message.
In her response, Mrs. Oyadiran shared how Mama lived despite suffering he grief of three children. She remained unwavering in her faith. This was attested to by teaming religious groups, including the Jerusalem Pilgrims Association, African Church and Light House Fellowship of RCCG, that visited the home of the deceased to pay homage. Before the arrival of the president's wife, praises were sung, prayers shared and gifts made to the family.
