Dr. Emeka Chugbo of BLESSED Memory

When I read about the painful death of Dr. Emeka Chugbo MBBS Lagos (1990), a LUTH trained O&G Consultant on Twitter, I had three questions but could ask none as I posted my condolence:

“May God Almighty comfort and reward his loved ones in Jesus name.”

The questions I had:
  1. What was an OBGYN doctor doing with a covid patient?
  2. Did he not take precautionary measures, did he not wear protective gears or were the gears compromised?
  3. Many have been treated and discharged from this condition, did he have a medical condition or fellow doctors didn’t make him priority?

The message below received from an Alumni Member of FGC Odogbolu who is a medical doctor with the military answered my rhetorical mental questions and I believe this is FACT, contrary to the LIES being peddled by those who have no empathy for a doctor who gave his own life because he dared to show empathy and kindness in honour of the Hippocratic Oath.

I previously warned before and I am warning again, ALL DOCTORS SHOULD TREAT ALL PATIENTS AS COVID PATIENT AND OBSERVE ALL MEASURES TO STAY SAFE.

Facts of the Matter (edited for clarity)

Please let’s spread the right information about Dr. Emeka Chugbo who died of COVID19 infection in Lagos on 15/4/2020

Dr Chugbo was a consultant Obsterician and Gynaecologist who was called in to do an emergency CS for his pregnant patient who was in sever distress as well as her unborn fetus. Unknown to him, she was a case of COVID19 and that’s how he got infected.

COVID19 is primarily a respiratory disease that is treated mainly by Internal Doctors (Pulmonologists), Anesthetists/Intensivists, Infectious Disease Experts, ENT Surgeons occasionally, BUT NEVER BY OBSTETRICIANS/GYNAECOLOGISTS.

There is no way Dr. Chugbo, an O&G Consultant would intentionally treat a COVID patient in his private clinic knowing he lacked the facility to do so as is making rounds now.

Please let’s get the facts right.

What he did was a caesarian operation. He did NOT attempt to treat COVID. Being an excellent doctor, he always went all the way to ensure the best treatment for his patients. Seeing a pregnant woman in distress, he rushed in to save her life not knowing it will cost him his.

It was when she died 2 days after the surgery that the news came that she was a COVID patient. Unfortunately, Dr Chigbo being asthmatic was was already infected and didn’t make it.

PLEASE, let us say a prayer for his family and other health care workers who risk heir lives DAILY while trying to save other people’s lives.

This shows us that with a community spread of the virus, no one is exempted, even a dentist, psychiatrist, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, general practitioners, paediatricians, urologist and other totally unrelated fields are also at risk; as long as you see patients.

Dr. Emeka Chugbo’s death is very painful and so is the death of any health worker. My heart was seared when I heard of 44 losing their lives in UK-NHS. I have been in prayers for health workers globally, they are on the frontline and their deliverance in a corrupt world is in God’s hands...

This is my empathy laden message to all health workers:

To minimise or mitigate risk, TREAT ALL PATIENTS AS COVID PATIENTS FIRST AND OBSERVE ALL MEASURES TO STAY SAFE. Life has no duplicate.

Secondly, to save many more people, SAVE YOURSELF FIRST. Maintain the highest standard of safety.

Mark 12:31

To all those who report at emergency centres or hospitals generally...

PLEASE STOP PEDDLING LIES about symptoms, travel history and exposure so as to get the appropriate treatment for yourself. Lying means you would not get appropriate treatment and you are at risk of DEATH.

PLEASE STOP PEDDLING LIES about symptoms, travel history and exposure so you do NOT expose unsuspecting health care staff who were unprepared to tackle COVID and who may infect others before discovering they have contracted it. These people have wives/husbands, children, parents and many others who love them. Their lives MATTER GREATLY.

The fewer health workers we have, the more likely those who contract it would have just one option, DEATH.
