In a press release signed by the Group's Executive Co-ordinator, Dr Omolola Omoteso, the training which is a pilot scheme will be open to participants made up of university students, new entrants into the industry and mid-career level women as a form of mentorship.

Highlights of the training include networking with industry experts, newswriting and reporting, fundamentals of production, effective use of social media, principles  of media marketing and sponsorship, public relations nest practice, publishing and many more.

The one day training will expose participants to a window of opportunities available in the Nigerian media as the rudiments of all aspects of media and journalism practice will be laid bare as a tool for leadership and political participation.

At the end of the workshop, facilitators will monitor their progress and ensure they are exposed to the right techniques and function in the media as well as public sphere the right way.

Facilitators and moderators at the training are experienced ladies in media and gentlemen with local and international expertise in key aspects of media which include television, radio, internet, print and public speaking.

Dr. Omolola Omoteso had this to say:

I have been running media workshops for years. I started with children. Initiated and facilitated NAWOJ's first workshop. I have done mentoring for a number of media women but now wish to start a media training that will eventually grow into a media conference for women as a catalyst to moving women up the media ladder as influencers towards fielding them in the top echelon of national development.

This is a workshop by mostly female speakers and trainees to build the capacity of women in media so they can grow their careers and increase their income while working as catalysts for including women in national development, promoting gender inclusion in governance and women engagement in politics.

This pilot edition is a requirement ahead of meeting with representatives of the public and private sector to pitch the inclusion of participants in advocacy one of which is on encouraging citizens to position themselves to actively participate in politics by getting their PVCs.

Speakers who have over 100 years cumulative experience include Dr. Omolola Omoteso, Rev. Olakanmi Amoo-Onidundu formerly of Insight Communications/TROYKA, Mrs. Lanre-Anjola Oyebode and other senior media executives, executives from the civil societies and women leaders.

Interested participants can register at https://mediawomen.eventbrite.com/ while those interested in partnership or sponsorship can reach out to the coordinator via willowsmagazine@gmail.com.
