Proudly Nigerian... This reached us via our SAN.
We had our Liberia-Nigeria friendship march on Saturday in honour of the Nigerian Independence Day, and the streets of Liberia were green and white. Traffic was blocked for miles, but it was so beautiful. All Nigerians were in nicely designed green and white track suits and flag flew high. A church service at the City Hall the same weekend rang out praises to God for the nation that is Nigeria. People took the time to look back at Nigeria's contribution to Liberia, not in peacekeeping, but the decades where the majority of the civil service of Liberia was filled with Nigerians of all skill sets who came to help to establish governance systems between the 50's and 70's.
As I sit on my back porch this morning reflecting, I realize today moreso now than ever before, how much Nigeria has meant and still means to me. My life was transformed in Nigeria in every facet. I met some of the best human beings that God ever made and some of them became my friends and family.
On this Independence Day, I pray that Nigeria will truly become the independent power house that it was birthed to be. I pray that Nigerians will grow to know more of who they are in God's plan for this earth, and take their rightful place. I pray that there will be a liberation of minds and attitudes that will spiritually and physically liberate Nigeria from ills that mar its positioning, and create a platform upon which the rest of Africa can stand and dare to be liberated as well. It will happen in my lifetime in Jesus' name.
Happy Independence Day!
