Retired Generals will Support Buhari - IBB

On January 6, we refreshed your memory by revisiting a February 22, 2011 headline, ”No Deal With Jonathan; He Can’t Run Beyond 2015 - IBB." Many wondered where we got the scoop from but we were merely reminding people that it is either IBB have lost whatever iota of credibility remained or GEJ had again used his presidential stroke to woo the War General who he referred to as his father in a statement that has gone viral:

“Of course, you know that this is the end of the year. Within this period, people pay visits. So I have come to visit him. You know he just came back from a hospital abroad, not too long ago. Since he came back, we have not seen. I need to see my father to know how he is feeling. I am quite pleased the way I have seen him.”

Though IBB was reported to have made a speech, we found it to be shallow and non-committal as such we did not report that story. But here we hear verbatim IBB's submission on the coming election. About 4 years after his ”No Deal With Jonathan; He Can’t Run Beyond 2015 - IBB." made headlines, IBB is again in the news. Below affirms a mantra that has come to be known as true, "In politics, no permanent enemy, no permanent friend!"

General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has stated that the retired Generals will support the aspiration of ‎ the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate.

According to Babangida who made this known when Buhari paid him a visit at his uphill residence in Minna; they will support their own.

APC presidential candidate, Gen. Buhari alongside his vice, Prof. Osinbajo, APC  Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi were among dignitaries that paid a courtesy visit to General Ibrahim Babangida [rtd] at his Minna residence.

He stated that he is proud of the persistence and perseverance of Buhari in seeking to offer himself for service at the highest level in the country's young democracy.

"You have beaten some of us in proving Gen. Douglas Mc'Arthur's theory that, "Old soldiers never die but fade away gradually, but you have refused to fade away," he told Buhari.

He then commended APC for honouring the military by nominating Buhari. "I wish to congratulate members of the party for the honour of nominating my colleague, General Muhammadu Buhari as your presidential candidate in 2015 election," he said.

Babangida accused the media of misrepresentation of his relationship with Buhari, adding that it is far from what is being reported. "You media men have created this impression that we are fighting each other. Look at us here today; he knows what I mean and I know what he means. We both fought to keep Nigeria one when we were young majors then. We were well travelled.
